they touched on this with that sea slug thing didn't they? pokemon seems to be full of really awesome but ultimately half-baked ideas that just get left in the dust.

the most puzzling thing about the franchise is why they don't carry the most successful ones into new installments. going to a new region after beating the elite 4, having any pokemon follow you outside of a pokeball, pokemon amie, your example of regional differences, they just put them in once and then never look at them again. just doesn't make sense.

Why not take the vivillom route where real life regional locations affected Pokemon anatomy and maybe moveset/stats (+/-3 to each stat nothing drastic) if it could be effectively balanced

They can detect what generation a Pokemon is from, what if they all had the color palettes from those games? Including the Virtual Console rereleases

I wish they actually did this with Arbok. There are different hood designs between regions, but it's only from generation to generation, not all within the same game.

I think its coz they want each region to have sonething unique. They are just gimmicks after all, overworld pokemon and amie don't add much to the core game mechanics.

Slight design differences would be low effort-high reward for Game Freak. Choose maybe 100 Pokemon out of the 700+ we have, give them slightly different appearances depending on the area/game, and your fans will have even more reasons to play and trade.

In each game, Pokemon have different learnsets. I like to think that's the regional differences happening.
