I've noticed rarer pokemon in weird locations at differing times, and have also noticed water pokemon appearing somewhat far away from water. I'm not sure if they're migrating or not, though.

I think it simply causes them to spawn at the stops. I've noticed that some of the pokemon attracted with lure modules do not show up in that "nearby pokemon" list in the bottom right corner.

Pokemon go on its own isn't really all that special, but it's a great thing to do with friends and a great excuse to walk around and explore your area. Hopefully, updates fix some of the boring stuff to keep it fresh. That said, the social side of it is really interesting.

That's because most mobile games are made by small time indy companies. Most of them also aren't backed by two major multi billion dollar corporations and have a 35 million dollar budget.
The game is shit because they made it shit. An Ingress mod with models taken from XY. They almost entirely used existing assets and still can't make their game work.
It's a neat idea, they executed it poorly. It'd be nice to not only see it work without constantly crashing or freezing, but if it could play without you staring at the screen, like buzz an alert even if it's in my pocket with the screen off. Other apps do that fine, I don't get why this one can't.

An iPhone 4 will easily run Pokemon GO.
