I just pick what I prefer. On my attackers I like having shorter animations on the basic attacks with 2 bar moves on specials. On my defenders I prefer to have longer animations on basics and 1 big bar moves on specials, especially if the Poke has a lot of HP. The damage is pretty poor when attacking, that's true BUT Chansey specifically (Snorlax to an extent also) is a bit special. Chansey has really low CP, for example mine is capped and I'm trainer level 19. That means when I place it at a gym, it gets places towards the beginning of the list, so attackers need to go through it first. It slowly takes away their battle time and chips at their pokemon and when they get to the higher end pokes, those can sometimes take out the weakened ones pretty easily. Really annoying to deal with.

To my understanding Pokemons don't have stats other than CP and HP, size has been confirmed to not affect anything if Reddit is to be trusted. I believe the biggest factors are the animations of the moves. I prefer shorter animations on attacking pokes, because they allow quick dodges if you're into those and some moves "stun" the defending pokemon. For example my Golduck has water gun as its basic attack and the opposing pokes always flinch a bit when it hits, delaying their next attack. I believe that might just be placebo too though, there's really no telling with this game.

You swipe left or right to dodge. When attacking gyms, I feel like AI usually opens with 2 basic attacks every single time, followed by a slight pause, which in turn is then followed up by a special move. When attacking with faster animation moves (Wing attack and Bite for example), I usually have enough time to hit 3 times, with slower moves I barely have time for 2. The only way to know how fast the animation of a move is, is to try it out in combat.

I went instinct because it's the least common, so you get to fuck up the most people and other yellows are more likely to rally to you. Valor is the most normie and probably slightly more common than blue. For example, my local group has 378 in red, 577 in blue, and 244 in yellow. But with how many reds there are, I have a feeling it's mostly made up of people who are so normie they don't know there are facebook groups (and probably don't play that often)

I think the AI just cheats. Sometimes they use specials that I know have bigger loads, like Body Slam, and they just use it several times in quick succession. I believe it may be partially due to server lag, but it's still rather ridiculous at times. It also feels like the AI hits harder with moves that don't normally seem to do that much damage, absolutely the biggest reason why I get slow charging, hard hitting moves for my defender pokes.

You can claim defender bonus every 21 hours. If you have a pokemon in a gym when you collect, you will get stardust and coins.
Max of 10 count, 500 dust and 10 coins per mon.
Best idea is to claim 10 gyms, collect, and then do it again the next day.
