it's an rpg where you can customize your team in endless ways
additionally i love the monsters because they are often weird and based on interesting puns/combinations of influences
When I was younger I got into it for the cool monster designs.
Those are still there, but now I like it because Pokemon is one of the last bastions of broken skill combinations in RPGs. Everything plays it too safe these days but Game Freak just lets shit loose.
