It IS missing something. I like the general idea, but the way it was drawn and lack of any significant detail kills it. It's just too...round. Looks like something I could have drawn when I was 6.

There's nothing wrong with cute pokemon. Frankly, I don't think the pikachu ghost looks "bad", it's just boring. We've already had at least two sheet ghost pokemon, so that concept isn't new, and the design itself is just a crudely drawn pikachu.
Then on the other hand there's the fucking panda, which I honestly could not believe was an actual pokemon at first. It's like they asked a 5 year old to design a pokemon. Its body is just one big simple shape, and it doesn't even have a mouth. It's just such a stupid looking design, but everyone on this board will defend it because "ITS CUTE! IF A POKEMON IS CUTE IT CAN'T BE BADLY DESIGNED!" Just like how Bruxish is good because it's ugly, and ugly pokemon can't be badly designed, or how Drampa is cute so it can't be badly designed.

That's the point of its design, considering kigurumi of mascots are simple and easy so children to old people can remember them. They represent a town or region in Japan. Obviously this Pokemon is like a "mascot" of Alola so to speak, but had a terrifying habit of breaking shit in half. It's further phoned home by its human proportions such as being 6'1" and bipedal. There is nothing wrong with its design if you take those things into account.

Because it is done. Game Freak, Nintendo, whoever, all of them, have literally shot themselves in the foot for releasing Pokemon GO. Now, because of this shit, no one is going to want to play the RPG games on handhelds. This is a HUGE blow for everyone. After SuMo releases, and flops, Nintendo will say "Hey, no one liked this shit, let's go all out with GO!". But this is wrong. I'm no analysis, but even I could tell that much. Now when they add shit like new Pokemon, no one will want to play it but fans of the old series and even then they will leave because GO is barebones and not a real Pokemon experience. So yes, the age of Pokemon is finally over. It's upon us and there's really nothing we can do until GO somehow dies in the next few days. As for, I don't want this, so I'm telling everyone I know not to download GO.
As for these designs, another example of the age of Pokemon being over. Designs were never this uninspired, I was hoping for less Kanto and more Kalos. I guess if GO doesn't kill the franchise, the designs will.

That's the bigger sin, i feel. Not only is it too busy, but it's too busy mainly because there's a lot of things that don't really belong there in the first place. It's a chekovs gun thing. If you're adding something to the design, it should always serve a purpose. Otherwise it should probably be removed.
It's a rule that extends way beyond just visual design, too. Writing, game dev, engineering, most things benefit from an application of this rule.
