As a whole I'd say its a lot less overdesigned, mon-by-mon there are some that are definitely much more simple than previous gens but still some that have a good balance of design elements without looking messy. I think they did a good job at approaching the designs from a new perspective to make it look fresh and original but still recognizably pokemon

It's not mimitsukyu, it's mimikkyu. The tsu kana is usually used to "double" the letter that comes after it.
