Do you not understand the premise of Pokemon?
Pokemon is a game where you play as a child who adventures through the world where he/she encounters people and ideas and Pokemon. To complete the adventure the player must adventure into the world in real life and encounter real people to trade and learn about the Pokemon thanks to other people's insights.
There should eventually be a Pokemon to represent every single thing a person might encounter in their lives.
Why wouldn't a mascot be represented?
Even without the premise, why is a pile of sludge or a tree with human face fruits more applicable than a mascot? A mascot is at least something with a real life analogue.

Togedemaru was slightly excusable, and I could see why people would defend Bruxish even if I didn't like it, but this thing is just terrible in every aspect, it looks like some shitty plush toy that manages to be way too simple especially on its body where its just a solid color, while the few details it has like the headband, the paw pads, and the tail just look fucking stupid. A 'good design' is a design that properly communicates it's idea. Like a sentence that's properly written is well designed if it carries its message properly.
In this instance there is a pokemon that is clearly based on a mascot with maid/cutebear influences on top of it. Mascots are big, awkward and hug people... Bears are big, strong and dangerous and maids are awkward and kawaii desu ne?
It communicates it all effectively...
The argument you should have maid was the following:

Well I generally dislike what it's based on in the first place but I guess it's not really that bad of a design due to what it's based on. I still dislike the fact that it's so simple despite being 7 feet tall, but I suppose this type of a design is gonna be a one off thing just because of what it's based on so I should just get over it. I still don't like it but I won't try and stop anyone else from enjoying it I suppose.
Like all shitmons, it'll develop a rabid stable of fanboys who everyone else hates.
