I'm level 11. Am I doing good so far? When do I start finding high CP pokemon?
Theres a park with 3 pokestops 10 minutes walk from my house and an area with 6 pokestops around 15 minutes away but neither of them are proper infinite cycles.
The best area (town centre) is only accesible by car/tram from my house but you can just walk around one area and get infinite pokestops.
I know I have it decent like this, but when I see people that can get pokestops from home / walk a minute to find a ton of them, i still feel jealous.
Do you realize what's gonna happen soon? As you fight in gyms, you're eventually bound to meet people from your team IRL and join them on gym raids. You'll find people who like Pokemon and become IRL friends with them thanks to this game. This is almost inevitable. How many other video games have made you IRL friends?

There's a Semicircle Meter on top of all your Pokemon, that's a meter that compares how powerful your Pokemon is to what its maximum power can be at your Player level. When you increase your level, you'll notice the CP stays the same, but the meter looks lower, thats because you have more room to power up. Evolution will increase the CP of a Pokemon, but its place on that meter will stay the same, this is because it has the same percentage of its maximum CP as before, but the evolved states are just inherently more powerful.
When you catch wild pokemon, look at where it is on that meter, if it's close to max, evolve that one, as it will require less stardust to fully power up once it is evolved.

Nintendo won't abandon the main series of games and handhelds for phone games. People say handhelds are dead, but the 3DS is basically the only thing keeping them afloat right now, not counting Sm4sh's brief WiiU craze. And yes, the Vita is fucking dead on arrival; Nintendo has 0 competition in the Handheld market. Mobile games are not Handheld games, and they know that. The technology just isn't there to make pokemon phone games that are as good as the handheld games.
If anything, Go will have either no effect on the sale of Sun and Moon or will slightly improve the sales, as I've seen a couple people here and there showing interest in getting back into the games after never having played pokemon or not having played since gen 1.
I find Go incredibly boring and contentless, but I am not worried about it killing the main series. It's also very much a fad thing, and people will probably stop playing it before winter.
Also, the notion that it would kill the main franchise hinges on the idea that they would move /all/ of their many different dev teams to JUST making Go, which is ridiculous. At most, they'll just keep Niantic working on these while the usual teams work on mystery dungeon, main series games, remakes, other spinoffs, etc. Literally the only people who would think there's any danger are people who have no idea how game development or Nintendo work.

I'm on the fence about my area. Excluding Grimer and Muk, I have at least one stage of every poison type from RBY. My street tends to spawn oddish fairly often and I've leveled up a 500+ Vileplume from it.
Otherwise there are a lot of birds and bugs along with a few water types. I guess to be expected living on a lake. Eevee here and there. I have a flareon and jolteon via evolution.
I'd very much like to get some more variety though. If I could find snorlax and dratini is be very happy.
My only real complaint is that I can't reliably hatch eggs with the app open. I completely understand why they didn't tie egg hatching to a pedometer but it would be nice to hatch my eggs while I'm on my stationary bike or getting my steps in at work while I'm in my feet 7-9 hours a day in a small building.

There is no point. I always evolve first to check movesets (CP is the only thing maintained during evolution, every other move and stat is rerolled), then power up after that.
It's there for people who don't have enough candies to evolve, and want to Power up their pokemon I guess

I was told two things. #1 the teams do different things: Yellow gets better eggs, Blue has better evolutions, and Red has better power ups.
I think this is related to more stable cp I can only speak for blue, but when I evolve a piggotto from 220ish cp it gave me about 537ish cp piggyot. #2 CP is based on player level and power ups are less effective around 70-80% of the fill bar ( arc ).

Honestly, I never thought Pokemon Go would be as popular as it is. Also never thought it would be the most popular game to date. I thought most people wouldn't care about it since Pokemon is mainly targeted towards kids. But to not only see kids and mostly ADULTS, fucking adults with children of their own and full time jobs playing this so vehemently is mind boggling. I thought Pokemon wasn't cool anymore. I thought the graphics would turn people away. How is this possible? Is this really a new Pokemon craze all over again? It fucking feels like I'm in the late 90;s again. I've played this game for about 2 hours, and I already hate it. What a horribly imbalanced design. I literally live on top of a pokestop, and I have friends near areas that spit out absurd amounts of rare pokemon. How is someone in a rural or suburban area supposed to compete with that unfair advantage? The game punishes people for living in the wrong place? It would make more sense if pokestops were delayed by distance travelled, instead of a set timer, to actually encourage the travel thing they keep harping on. Also, the pokemon should be requested client-side, instead of having a server dish them out based on geography (Why the fuck are pokemon more abundant inside a city than in the actual countryside, anyway? It doesn't make canonical sense).
But that's not even the worst part. Isn't catching shit-tons of pokemon only to store them away, never to see them again, totally antithetical to the whole "power of friendship" message the series has espoused for years?
