If it was up to me:
>Green light means you encountered a pokemon that isn't in your pokedex
>Yellow light means you encountered a pokemon that you have listed as a favorite
>Red light for every other pokemon encounter
>Blue light means you are in range of a pokestop.
Pressing the button dismisses the light and collects items from pokestops
