I didn't own gen 1, I used to borrow my friends, so my played time was much lower. When I hear it I feel very nostalgic.
Gen 2 was MY gen in a lot of way. I sunk hundreds of hours into it as a kid. So in a way, I'd say it feels the most vanilla to me - as it's baseline in my brain.
Gen 3 still excites me a little. I'd say it's my second gen - I got it on my tenth birthday and I really do have a sweet spot for it despite its flaws. Fuck you I like the trumpets
Gen 4 is my favourite gen so it gets me pretty hype.
Gen 5 is my least favourite so it makes me feel like I'm in an artificial environment with EDM music - if that analogy works.I haven't played 6

Actually none of them. For some reason, whenever I imagine a battle initiating, I always think of the Trainer themes instead of the wild ones. Either the Subway Trainer theme from BW2, or the new one from SM. Both are soooooo gooood.

4 > 1 > 6 > 3 > 5 > 2
Gen 1 started it all, and has that sense of "I have to win" going for it.
Gen 2 is less intense, and doesn't feel as urgent. It feels too carefree.
Gen 3 feels urgent, but less serious.
Gen 4 feels adventurous and urgent, but at the same time feels just as it should. I can't explain it too well.
Gen 5 is too soft. It sounds like a downgrade from 4 akin to how 2 was to 1.
Gen 6 is urgent, and has moments that remind you to have fun. Those guitar riffs are killer.
Gen 1 because it's easy to remember, and Gen 6 because it was the most recent I played.
I've loved every generation, three being my favorite followed by five. Gen two is the one that pops into my head though.
