A remora is a kind of fish which has what amounts to a suction cup on its head. It attaches to the underside of other sea life. That's why mantine sprites had remora under their wings. Octopus, of course, have tentacles covered in suction cups. Both are marine animals that cling to things in the same way, so it's not JUST gun -> turret but also thematically linked by that.
