Instinct are real small in my area, and I refuse to take a gym from them. They're leveled higher than others on average.
Valor are alright, but everywhere. I mean everywhere. I can cover my entire city and well over half is red.
Mystic seems slimy, and every single CoD and LoL player I know all went with them. I didn't think I'd care about the group affiliation shit, but the blues seem to rely on numbers which they don't really have, and get real mad at everybody else.

Mysticfag here. I thought Valor sounded lame and I didn't like Instinct's badge. Although, having now seen that there are only red and blue gyms in my area, and that there seems to be no youngster Joey running around with super high-CP Rattatas, I feel like I have made a mistake

I live in a college town and the teams are split up in one of the cringiest ways.
Team Valor: the most popular, they're the "normies." And obnoxious as fuck in every social gathering I've been to so far.
Team Mystic: Seem to mostly be the hipsters. They wanted to go against the grain by being the opposite of Valor in every way. It's a constant war between Blue and Red for gyms.
Team Instinct: Everybody else. They're the least popular but not in the hipster kind of way. People have always looked down on the color yellow for some reason, if it was green it would be more popular I think.
I chose Instinct so I could play against the blue and red gyms that dot my city and I'm originally from Pittsburgh and that's part of our team colors. Similar to why Hufflepuff is the best Harry Potter house and the Baratheons are the best Game of Thrones house, I just like the colors and they remind me of home.
