I've used 3 so far while walking in towns close by, caught a few mons but not nearly as much as people say they're catching when they pop theirs.
It's playable, obviously, but it's still a pain for us rural people to put up with the lack of everything while city people sit back on their couch with 3 or 4 lured and 2 gyms Pokestops in immediate range

How do i catch anything in this? I live in a decently sized city, but my nearby pokemon stay the same and never get closer or further. Is anyone else experiencing this?
At home there is no pokéstops at all and you literally have to drive over 50km to get near one. There also spawns no pokémon at all.

When I went to my grocery store I found a zubat in the parking lot. Throughout the night I've checked it about every hour or so while at home. When I first bring it back up the gps takes a minute to get my location again, so it walks me a little bit around my house, maybe a 50 foot radius. Mostly the usual pidgey, ratata, etc. but I did find an Eevee, a Drowzee, and just a few minutes ago a Haunter, even though it's morning.
Neither of them ever showed up on the nearby pokémon list, so I don't know how that is supposed to work. It's just as well. There aren't any pokéstops that I don't have to drive way out to. If there's nothing near work I'll probably just delete it, since level-up balls will only last for so long.

I could have found a wild Pidgeot and Eevee earlier but I was at work which saddened me a little.
Also found a wild squirtle which was cool.

What state you live in? I have the same problem. I live in Maine in a small town surrounded by woods, can't find shit. Used incense and it said a pidgey was nearby but it never showed up. I'm fucked, I'm forced to go 30 minutes into town if I wanna play this

I Don't have a Data plan so i'm playing with Wi-Fi only. There's a Poke stop literally a 2 minute walk from my house but i can't get it due to my wifi cutting off.
It's certainly playable without a Data plan but it's not really fun at all. If you're lucky you'll get a decent amount of Pidgeys and weedles a day.

I'm the opposite. Rattata is pretty much my bro in this game too, my most powerful 'Mon at the moment is a Raticate. I'm hoping to take down a gym with another Raticate soon. For there can only be one.
