I think Gen 5 are the best games but even I think the original 151 are the best set of Pokemon, nothing too do with design it's just everything you need is there and they are by far the most recognizable bunch as they were the first. Not hard to understand really.

Gen 5 is in a lot of ways just a better, modern version of 1 though. Gen 5 quite objectively beats Gen 1 in every direction except nostalgia. There's no need to lie to yourself, 5 is superior.
