Alan's implied to lose to Ash actually. They already talk about him already winning all of his encounters with Ash and Charizard was being shat by Greninja before the heart attack and perfected form (both fixed already).
Not to mention Alan talks about collecting Mega Evolution energy which the transformation doesn't use. Alan basically has to lose to allow that final confrontation during Team Flare.
The onlt threat to Ash rn is literally only Tobias.
