I find it pretty weird that absolutely nothing on the official site refers to Topu Keku as a "legendary" or "mythical".
And aren't most minor legendary trios announced together? Maybe the only exceptions were the legendary beasts.

You still can. Most of the lesser trio pokemon aren't actually that much more powerful than what you get in the wild, their stats are just better spread.
I used Azelf in platinum, regice in Emerald, articuno in Leafgreen, and I know for a fact there are a lot of people who use the legendary dogs, even Entei.
It's only with the genies and Musketeers that they get really absurd.
