This is fucking awesome.
Remember to spin them Pokeballs for style points, as well as higher catch rates. When you spin, the ball will curve so keep that in mind so you don't waste a lot of balls for nothing.
I've noticed some Pokemon dodge certain kinds of throws, like Zubats. If you throw a ball straight, it will avoid it be dodging left or right. But throw a curveball and it lands as long as you know how to throw it in the right direction.
Also don't forget that for Gym battles, you have to tap the opponent Pokemon for you to attack. By side-swiping you can dodge their attacks.
Oh, and also don't forget that Incense attracts nearby Pokemon to your location, if you use it while just sitting still, you wont encounter as many Pokemon as you would if you were walking/biking/driving.

half of what you said is wrong though....
yes you can tap to do your basic attack, of you can press and hold to do your special attack, the damage and type of attack is listed in your pokemon info, the CP is just a muliplier applied on top of your base damage. It's worth it to use your charge attacks, If you want to practice combat, take a gym and set up a super weak pokeman there, and do training, it'll give you a chance to practice battle so you can get the hang of things, plus you can beat it super easy which gives you xp and levels up the gym.
Incense doesn't attract nearby pokemans, it randomly spawns pokemon on top of you and has nothing to do with the "nearby pokemon"
Every curve ball I've thrown that landed caught the pokemon, but less than half the time I get the bonus xp for doing a curveball. but yeah, I think curveballs are better catchrates.

yes, evolving gives an amount of CP to what they already have, the amount it gives is the same for the same evolution, so evolving 2 pidgeys say one at 15 and one at 30, they will both get an increase to their CP, one will still be 15 higher than the other.
and evolving increases the max CP for the 'mon, as well as changes moves and size (which may or may not have an effect on hp)

each mon has a max CP, you can see it by the bar above the pokemon in their info page.
when you evolve them they get an amount of CP based on the evolution, they will get the same amount when evolving the same pokemon.
evolved pokemon has a higher max CP
If you catch a pokemon, and the CP value is in the left half of the bar, go ahead and grind it into candy.
The amount of stardust changes when powering up 'mons, the question is, is it based on their current CP or the ratio of current to max
if it's ratio of current to max, then you'd save hundreds or thousands by waiting until you evolve before powering up,
if it's based on current CP, it won't make a difference if you evolve or power up first.
unless you're very close to the max for that 'mon, then if you used power it'd put you at your max instead of giving you the full amount that pokeman would have got. (like if you're 4 away from max and you power up, you'll only get 4, instead of the amount that pokeman normally gets when powering up)

It's what I've noticed, been playing since yesterday and taking notes of CP and such,
and as I mentioned, there is one thing I don't know for sure because I didn't make notes of how much stardust it cost to power up,
