I'm new to Pokemon and want to know where to start.

I looked for a sticky with a wiki or something but found nothing. If I missed it, I apologize.

Any suggestions as to where I should start would be greatly appreciated.

Also, is Pokken Tournament recommended if I don't have a Wii U? I mean is it worth buying one for it?

On that note, should I get a 3DS too?

Get a 3ds. Buy a Gen1 game on eshop Virtual console. Buy heart gold or soul silver card, buy diamond, pearl or platinum, buy black, white, or black2, white2, buy x or y, buy omega ruby or alpha sapphire. all generations covered on one system.
