I'm probably just retarded, but how exactly to you track Pokemon on your nearby list? I get that the fewer footprints the closer, but what about other things? Does the pulsing from the icon at the bottom right increase when you get closer? I've had that get pretty fast but not get any less track marks. What about the grass that shoots up occasionally? Ive investigated a close one a few times, always in the same spot, with no results.

Ice types should be in arctic regions, fire types should be in exceptionally hot regions, electric types should only be available near power plants, and so on.
