It's not an empty post office, it's actually the community centre hall. It's a construction site outside. That being said, someone place a pokemon there (Muk) and I managed to beat it with a Slowpoke and Cubone.
The way gym works is that you pick a team (Valor, Instinct or Wisdom) and you claim a gym for your team. Your gym has a reputation (this one had 2000) and when you battle the reputation goes down. When it reaches 0, the gym becomes empty and you get to leave a pokemon there as the new gym leader. If someone from your team battles you, it will make your pokemon stronger apparently.
I'm due for an upgrade, what's a good phone to play this on?
I can't go out and explore right now, how do I tell where these pokemon are? I see 3 paw prints for every pokemon nearby but I have no idea which direction or how far that might actually be.
I know you get poke balls by leveling up and transactions but is there any other way? I know they have poke stops or whatever, I walked to one but it just gave me revives and potions. Will it generate more over a certain time period or am I going to have to just find more stops?

Took me a bit to figure out. You need to swipe and it starts to spin. When it spins hard enough, it drops shit. It resets after 5 minutes and you can get more shit, then after 3 times, it goes on 24 hr CD.

On my phone it doesn't work with the screen off period. And I have an s7 edge so this isn't some chink shit phone either. The game doesn't progress at all if the screen is off, it's like in pause. Turn it on and it redetermines location again.
