It seems like the smaller the circle gets, the smaller the hitbox. The Pokemon itself is not the hitbox, the hitbox is just the circle.
This is going to be a massive flop, no one is going to be able to figure this game out without a guide.

No. I walked around for an hour today trying to figure out what that meant.
At some point the footprints go away entirely but it doesn't seem to do anything.
The only encounter I got was a voltorb, which had three footprints at the time, and was so far clipped into the ground that it was literally uncatchable.

Yeah, I figured that part out, but the smaller the circle the harder it is to hit as well. It took tons of tries of missing before I realized this. I kept missing and I couldn't understand why, I got the circle too small. It's just so damn convoluted and not immediately noticeable.
The game needs a popup tutorial guide telling you how to do things the first time you do them. And I usually hate that type of thing, but the game is insanely cryptic. It desperately needs an explanation.

I've caught tons of Pokemon but I still don't know how to find them, they just appeared after a while. Nothing is clear in this game. If I'm stupid, it doesn't matter. The average casual can't be any better at it than me.
The average casual will drop this game in 15 minutes after not being able to figure out where the mons are, not being able to figure out how to battle or trade(because you can't) and blowing all their balls.

There's PokeStops where you can visit and receive 3 random items. I visited 2 and only got PokeBalls from each.
There were only basic Pokemon available/nearby for me. Caught Zubat, Krabby, Rattata and 2 Pidgey. There was also a Weedle which I ignored. It also said Golbat and Spearow were nearby but I didn't come across any.
