i just finished redesigning the first stage of my fighting mons.
even though all my designs are shit you gotta admit that the new version is LESS shit than the old version.
Trying to give this thing a dorky smile when its mouth opens. I'll probably do a better doodle though and make it look nicer.

I've gotten similar comments before about it being close to Lumineon. I was going more of a Zelda fairy shape for the body and wings though, and its middle stage (pic related) moves away from it I think. I'm trying to go more a masquerade/femme fatale look for it and its final evo (not pictured, but I can post it too).

the whole thing was kind of a struggle. i wanted to make a popcorn pokemon but didn't want it to just be sunkern->whimsicott. i'm happy with the first stage now but the second stage might get adjusted.

I think the lumineon comparisons are less obvious when you post the colour versions and not just linework.
You've been at this for months anon. Pokedex will be ready in time for Gen LXCII, are you a sage dev in disguise? Lock in the design and move on or you'll never be happy with it.

I'm not with Sage at all. I admit I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to making designs, though. I think what I have is good though now and I'll get to coloring them. I'll probably move on to the grass starter afterwards. That one needs a bit of a revamp too.
I will say I did take a break from drawing for a month or so, which I guess didn't help with how I felt about what I had made. But yeah I really should get more motivated about it.

here is the entirety of my dex so far.
aiming for somewhere around 150. i know they aren't 100% gamefreak style but i'm just trying to do something in the spirit of pokemon, not exactly the same.
i haven't named any of them so i'd appreciate some suggestions. the grass starters are based on citrus/hopi masks, the water starters are based on minotaurs/gladiators, and the fire starters is based on llamas/lamassu.

I don't wanna be that kind of anon who is completing the picture limitation by himself, so I did a big mish mash of all my fakemons I have on my computer.
I already posted a lot of them and redesigned somes with anons' advices.
Have you got any ideas to make one of em better?
I'm able to give you references of their aspects and types if they are not clear enough.

That's actually a decent concept but that design looks horrendous.
I can't recall if this has been posted here or not but there was a book released here in Canada over 10 years ago called Elandera. I don't recall what it was about but it revolved around really shitty monsters.

Not necessarily fakemon but a prediction of the silhouettes shown of the starters before BW. I actually wouldn't have minded a red panda fire starter and a water pig. Snivy was pretty much the same though, here.

The Pokemon B2W2 fake Corocoro leaks that stirred up a lot of attention are actually really cool. I wouldn't have minded this being real. I honestly would've loved having different starters considering how shitty the Unova starters were, and that clock tower area looks awesome. Also Pokemon following you is a big plus, too.

Pretty much all of them except your grass stater and popcorn lemur suffer from "it just gets bigger/more detailed". Try changing pallets, body types, even the poses so they look different.
The water stater needs to be cuter. Try making it a bull calf, on all fours. A rounder head and bigger eyes could help.
The fire starter needs more differences between stages.
You got some good ideas but they need work.

i will give them all another pass. i'm trying to develop a good number of fakemon and then i will go back and revise them all. thanks for the input. i will try to distinguish the stages more. part of my problem is that i usually start with a design and then just upgrade it. the popcorn lemurs are the only ones where a transformative evolution was key to the concept.

No, you should fix them now. Don't put it off. You want to have 150 solid designs, not 150 mediocre ones that you have to redo all over again.
