We know there was a poor reception and we know that mega evolution was created so players don't have to sacrifice their favourites and that they can get stronger instead of another pokemon.
Were you not there before and after the release of X and Y? There's a fuck ton of interviews stating this.Also Masuda came up with a machine that can translate pokemon speech for X and Y but failed to implement it because they would have to write reams and reams of text for all 700+ pokemon making it predate YW.
