Kalos Pokedex had 3 sections, 150 Pokemon per each part which gives us 450 mon in Kalos regional dex
Alola has 4 sections and we've already seen PLENTY of old mons in the trailer (as well as new ones obviously). In both XY and ORAS campaigns all the mons we saw in the trailers were catchable in-game. That suggests Alola dex will be huge.
How many Pokemon you think there will be on each island? 150 like Kalos areas? That would mean 600 pokes.
What if there's more? Could it be that we'll be able to catch all of old mons bar starters and legends?
Now the big question: How many new Pokemon will there be?

Hopefully around 100-110 new guys. I'm leaning more towards 90, but if we get more than that I'll be very happy.
I think every island will have a different number of Pokemon. Melemele will have around 80, while the rest have between 100 and 120, giving us around 350-400 Pokemon.

The islands are different sizes and won't have the same number of Mons each. Also realize that unlike Kalos, many places on each island won't be open until later. That ocean cave you see from the first Route being an example.
The first island is pretty small, and has 3 towns. I'd say 80, and that's generous. The second may have 100, the third 120, and the last (due to being largely uninhabited) probably 80 to a hundred.
That leaves us with 280 to 300 Pokemon in the Dex. I'd be OK with that. With 90 to 120 new Mons.

Large Dexes take away from the charm and flavor of the region. Having 400 some pokemon was the main reason why XY was so unmemorable.

With all of the models being re-used from gen 6, GF could easily implement 100+ new mons before even conceptualizing a mega. I don't see why this >only 70 new mon meme exists.
