It could, though not by a meaningful amount, and most likely a heavier story focus will result in worse game design such as all of BW1 or the ORAS Sky Pillar.

BW1 is a terrible game with a poorly written story that thinks itself to be something great but ends up falling flat on its face in nearly every facet. BW2 is a great game with a ho-hum story.
But, I guess I just disagree.
