It's only 'midi' sounding because it has a focused soundstage, and yeah I'll give you that guitar.
Having a soundstage like that, instead of having reverb or heavily layered will allow for some more complex writing to fill in the gaps instead. If they keep this direction, I can't wait to see how crazy the Legendary themes get.

I noticed for XY. And it was annoying too since I would switch from other games and easily notice the change in volume, making me think that I hit the volume slider on the side by accident.

I hate Jubilife city's theme because it's just so irregular, it makes me feel sick listening to it. Same with Eterna city.
