Some Zygarde have an ability that allows them to change into the 100% Forme when on low HP? So the Zygarde I caught in my X won't be able to change? Can you change a 50% Zygarde into a 10% one? Or only upgrade them into 100% and back again?
Zygarde is basically a collection of cells controlled by cores? 10% Forme only has one core, but 100% has a bunch? How many does 50% have?
My head hurts. I used to like Forme changes, but this is weird.

I'm going to guess that there's 10 cores in total. 5 for the wings/tail and 5 more to control the main body represented by the 5 colors in its chest.
This way there can be 10 10% forms at a time adding up to 100%.

I think the problem is how the calculation includes the cores as part of the Zygarde percentage, probably due to it using 1 cell/core = 1%.
For example, instead of a Zydoge being 1% core + 9% cells, I believe it should be 1 core + 10% of all cells.

So, for a trainer owning one Zygarde core, it would be like

At this point it really isn't known. If you want to use the anime as an example (because really, that's the closest thing to having info on this):
Blue core went to 50% Zygarde with more than 49 Cells.
They show Perfect Zygarde for the Magearna movie but the Blue Core is still captured by Team Flare.
Perfect Zygarde is also shown getting into a fight with either a machine that looks like 50% Zygarde or with a corrupted 50% Zygarde.
In short, no one actually knows.

The Alola core most likely calls over the Zygarde from Kalos to add its 50% to the total.
If you're asking what would happen to the Kalos Zygarde if you transferred it to Sun/Moon and the Alola Zygarde went 100% then nothing would happen. transferring/trading a legendary from another game is basically like taking it from one dimension to another. That's how you can have two Arceus in the same game.

Its ability, Power Construct, changes its forme from 10% or 50% to Perfect when its HP is reduced to half or less.

Keep Zygarde at half health in your party and it'll probably change formes automatically, at least in-game (not in wireless battles) since it probably functions similarly to how Darmanitan's Zen Mode works (except Zygarde's HP capacity increases significantly upon changing and makes it more viable).

The math used for the increase in HP of Zygarde's forms seem pretty easy and straightforward, though (2x and 10x the base HP). I believe for megas that only increase some points in HP it would need to be a little more complex.
