Well yeah, they are both based off of kuwagas, kinda like Slowbro and Shellmon are both based off of Sazae Oni.

"Kuwaga" comes from "Kuwagatamushi", which is the Japanese word for "Stag Beetle".

So, this is just another case of a Pokemon and a Digimon coincidentially being based on the same thing.

Might as well compare Anubismon to Lucario while you're at it.
