Of course not, I'm a native spanish speaker. I've spoken English since I was around 5, but I've always pronounced Pokemon names as if you read them in spanish. Try hearing the letter "o" is pronounced in spanish and then listen to the word toe, doe or something like that and you'll get what I'm saying.

It's the same sound to a lot of English speakers because there's no meaning difference between a longer "toe" sound an a shorter "toh." You can say the word "toe" as long or as short as you want and it means the same thing--it's not like how it is in Japanese. By advising someone to pronounce the first syllable as "toe" is going to have the same effect as telling them to pronounce it "toh" since no one in English is going to say the whole long "tou" sound (or "tow" as people are calling it here) since it's just a single syllable in a longer name. You're acting like someone's going to pronounce it とうげでまる just because someone told them the first syllable sounded like "toe" when that just wouldn't happen.
It mostly sounds to me like others here are trying to sound superior because they make a difference between the two sounds. Who cares? We speak differently.
