Here's how I see it: If you fight one battle and win it, your win percentage is 100. But if you fight 50 battles and win them all, you also have a win percentage of 100 despite being much more impressive.
Using percentage doesn't tell you how many battles have been fought, which is an important bit of info to have. Using the win/loss percentage tells you more information, so you can better tell if it's actually impressive or not if a given Pokemon has a certain win percentage.
