Well let's think for a minute. Most likely, they will do another game in the 7th generation, unless they skip to the 8th, in which case there will be another gap year. I honestly can't think of much else they could do, unless they want to do another Kalos game or create another region but even then they might as well go for a full generation so we're back to square one. I doubt there will be a sequel or a third version to SM because they clearly threw that out the window in Gen 6, and if this game is the "sequel" to XY then something like that for SM would likely be another new generation.
I'm honestly at a loss for what they might do otherwise. If they were going to do Kanto remakes anytime soon, the time to do that was this year for the anniversary. It could happen for the 25th anniversary though. But I think it's not unreasonable to guess that DP remakes would be either next year or in 2018 following another gap year.Also, it's been a while since we've seen Cynthia, and Looker has had a presence in most of the games since, and he'll likely be around in SM. Make of that what you will.
