Why can't they coexist? Pokemon with 3 stages can get the mega because a 4 stage evolution is unheard of. And one off Pokemon and a handful of 2 stage evolutions can get real follow ups.

Porygon 2, Rhydon, Chansey, Machoke, and Kadabra are all running at double stats. Chansy, Porygon 2, Rhydon, and possibly Machoke all have 2.5x defences.
