If you could change something about Pokemon battling to make it better (NOT perfect), what would you change?

I personally would remove any mechanic that makes it so you are unable to make a move. Full paralysis and flinching are the two biggest offenders here. The speed drop from paralysis is enough of a hindrance, but not being able to make a move is just not fun no matter how you look at it.

I'd also remove confusion and freeze, though those aren't as much of a problem as flinching and full paralysis. Sleep can stay because sleep in its current state is fine. Maybe change sleep mechanics so that Sleep induced by Spore always lasts two turns, while sleep from any other source can last from 1-3 turns like usual. Rest would stay the same, of course.

Evolutions mid-battle

How about Confusion can make your Pokémon hurt themself, but only if they use an attack? They are immune to self-harm if they use status?

There's the same problem that Mega Evolutions have, which is the base HP stat changes.

Variable type weaknesses now that GF's spoonfeeding advantages.

1.2x, 1.5x and 2x Super Effective damage and 0.75x, 0.5x and 0.25x resistance are possible.

Some types might resist another type more than others. Like Steel might take 1.2x damage instead of 2x and Grass resists Water by 0.25x instead of 0.5x while Electric stays the same a damage against it. Fire might be 0.75x effective instead of 0.5x because evaporation.

The whole point is to cut down on your bros being less jobby and making designated walls fit for the task.
