Sorry for the glacial reply, I was gone all day. I have it set in a near future-esque technology state relative to the real world. I combined specific elements from the anime, manga, and games with Orwellian and Lovecraftian influences that motivate the goals of the government.
Essentially food is all synthesized and is vegetarian. There's no murder or violence on TV and the media indoctrinates the population into finding peaceful solutions to everything.
