Since the shtposter hates RP so much, I thought this would be a fun time to start a quest!
Decisions are made by first option to get to 3 votes. Outcomes of what you choose will be determined by secret variables. Works a lot like civ threads, if you're familiar with those.
So, first and most important choice, will our hero be a pokemon or a trainer?

Hugh sent out his starter, Vanillish!

A bug type would be fun. Perhaps something like Larvesta? It has that kind of elusive feel that'd suit a mystery-ball starter, like Zorua as I suggested. I'd honestly like to see something like Golett or Litwick, but that's my love of ghost-types talking.

Butcher Pete used Dual Chop! Hugh's Vanillish is wounded and splatters some Ice cream on the ground, but it's still standing.
"Vanillish, use Powder Snow!" Hugh commanded.
Vanilish summoned a gust of powdery ice and hurled it at Butcher Pete. The ice was not good for him. Butcher Pete grew sluggish and cold.
Time for a counterattack!

"Vanillish, Freeze that overgrown lizard!" Hugh said.
Your two pokemon's attacks connected at exactly the same time. Vanillsh poked a jagged icicle into Butcher Pete's body, and Butcher Pete sliced into Vanillish's soft creamy flesh.
DOUBLE KO.
...But Wait, Butcher Pete is still moving! Butcher Pete just barely got to his feet and licked the cream from Vanillish's body.
Hugh stood in disbelief.
"Um... Crud. Did I just lose?" Hugh said.
"You sure did." You said.
Hugh put his Vanillish back in its pokeball and rushed to the pokemon center. You went with him and got Butcher Pete nice and healed up.
"That was a nice fight, Guy. I swear, I'll beat you next time!" Hugh said.
"Sure, whatever." You replied.
Time to move on.
1. Look for new pokemon to catch.
2. Train Butcher Pete against Bug Catchers
3. Reward Butcher Pete with Maple Syrup
You almost lost that fight, by the way. My hidden variables came up really nasty for you on that one.
Oh, yeah, forgot to mention. Butcher Pete has Rash nature, and likes Sweet food. That's why I said Maple Syrup. He has average at best IVs.

You go to the grocery store and pick up a whole bottle of Maple Syrup. Butcher Pete is extremely pleased. You go out into the woods with him as he nurses the bottle like a beer.
As you journey through the woods in route 3 toward Striaton City, you see several wild pokemon in the grass!

3. Some bug hiding from you, you can't quite make out what it is
4. Rustling grass, completely unknown assailant.

Butcher Pete gets right to Dual Chopping the wild Venipede. It's incapacitated and without much effort, but you used two pokeballs on it (the damn thing broke your first ball).

Unable to decide whether you want to use Agility or Struggle Bug, you command it as best you can.
"Venipede, use Agile Bug!" You shout.
Venipede is not quite sure what attack this is, since Agile Bug is not a real move, but he did his best.
Venipede began rapidly wiggling and running circles around Swadloon.
"Swadloon, use Iron Defense!" Bug Boy said.

Unfortunately for him, Iron Defense is Physical while Agile (Struggle) Bug is a special attack. It did nothing to defend itself from the wiggling chaotic attack. Swadloon was dazed and its special attack fell. Your speed rose.
Time to follow up for the finishing blow.

You and your pokemon were up bright nad early the next day. Striaton City doesn't have a lot going on, but there is stuff to do here.

Since these are the only answers I'm getting, I'll do my best to resolve them.

In the dreamyard you saw a Team Plasma grunt minding his own business smoking a cigarette.
