Actually, Smogon is extremely small in the grand scheme of everything.
Showdown is widely known due to it being a simulator that was shilled to fucking death. That and Pokemon EU shut down almost all the others while Pokemon US contacted Zarel and after some strong cock sucking has allowed his to stay until they decide it's taking away from sales.
Pokemon JP wasn't even aware when I visited their Office and when I told them about it the Staff were angry that their product was being mocked. I never took it to anyone higher, just the ground floor, but they made a very pissed off front about it and even took down the web address.
