Not even Machamp was usable in Gen I because their only noteworthy STAB was fucking Submission.
Hitmonchan Special was 35 so the punches were shit. You can argue that it was the only Fighting type with agility, but it lacked raw power and anything using an Special attack could bring him down.

Machamp was decent in gen 1, not anywhere half of a quarter as good as Exeggutor, Tauros or Chansey, but it had a niche in being able to do fuckhuge damage to the normals, and packing monstrous attack for genwun
