Anyway the biggest reason I think we wont be getting many more megas this gen is because well, the PCs lack mega stones on their art first off but also, GameFreak has thus far, introduced 90%+ new Pokemon every odd-numbered Gen.
I really hope this is yet-another-pattern-broken though; I cant understand why so many of the most popular genwun mons STILL dont have Megas! Like Dragonite, mainly. But also Tauros, fucking L A P R A S, etc., and I'd love to see a lot more, particularly from Gen 2 and 5. Every starter needs megas, not just Greninja

Gamefreak has also never introduced a new form that required a held item for that specific pokemon and required Sugimori's teams time and effort to design what is essentially a new evolution for that pokemons form. Not to mention how many "forms" are just gimmicks in the game like furfrou and gourgeist. Megas take more effort in design than these do. and ultimately they didnt amount to anything. The proof is in application, and when you try to apply megas and add on to existing megas, you just get a mess. If there were megas for every final form of a pokemon youd have to get a mega stone from each person you talked to in the game just to get half of them before you get to the e4. not to mention how many shiny sparkles would cover the screen as you player is walking around conveniently finding mega stones ever 10 steps. Just for them to cluster your bags, just so you can use ONE of them for ONE pokemon on your team. Megas made sense when they added 30 of them but when you think about it long term, it becomes a mess. S&M will introduce a new way to give your pokemon a stat boost with a stone that works with all pokemon, and dont require a new evolution design from sugimoris team.
