I've decided to actually do it, /vp/. I'm going to catch all 721 pokemon. Unfortunately, I missed the Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, and Darkrai events, so I'm kind of boned unless I can trade for them, or unless I decide to just get an injector to give 'em to me.
What do?

Don't bother for them until you got all the others, they don't count toward dex completion, plus you might find an anon willing to give them on your road to catching them all, check wifi general.

I once gor jirachi by wondertrade, anything can happen. but try at different times, some countries are more prone to spam it with shit mon than others.
Also, I can't tell if what you'll get is legit or not.
There will probably be events for those mons for S&M, just be sure you're signed up for all the shit sooner rather than later.

If you're getting anything good in wonder trade, chances are it's not legit. The shiny Slowking with pokerus that I got in wonder trade definitely wasn't. But I mean, I'm not going to bitch about it.
Also, wonder trade has been useful for filling up the pokedex from people's egg rejects. On one lucky note, I actually got a Graveler without an everstone in wonder trade, thus netting me a Graveler and a Golem in my dex. Somehow I also have an Alakazam in my dex despite never evolving my abra and never receiving a Kadabra in a trade. I have no Alakazam in my box. Either way, that's two pokemon I don't have to borrow my friend's 3DS to trade evolve for.
I started working on the Pokedex for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I have two 3DSes and all of the starters so I can basically get whatever I want. I'm over halfway through already.
I'm lucky enough to have started collecting the 20th anniversary event legendaries in February, so I have all of them so far.
The only issue I have is that I don't want to buy OR for those last few box legends that I'm missing. I guess I'll have to start breeding for shinies at some point if I ever want to make a living dex.

It wasn't really difficult for me. I caught them all a few summers ago and am almost done with my living dex this summer.
I've found that gts is super helpful in completing the pokedex if you trade one kind of pokemon for a similar kind (i.e. Honchcrow for Aegislash, both dusk stone mons). Obviously some pokemon can't be sent through gts though
