Whenever someone says XY has the best soundtrack I want to say they're dead wrong because most of the battle music is trash, but then I realize it's probably the one I can remember the most music from and one of its two good battle themes is perhaps the best in the series.
Just finished a playthrough of X and the music was so forgettable. Only song I remember is the battle with Diantha. DPP has the best soundtrack by far.

Gen II - Awesome 8-bit music. Superior
Gen III - Rocking 16-bit tunes. Many good tracks
Gen IV - Some are good, some are too happy.

Gen VI - Orchastric rocking music.

Soo many tracks in the pokemon franchise are more rocking tunes with notable highs in the tracks, while there are still a decent amount of tracks which are like happy and peaceful godnight jingles in ANY pokemon game, especially the DS Era.
