Why dont people realise that the realistic looking feathers, talons and colours for stage one birds that Gen 1 has are the exception, not the rule?
>>
Because it's not as simple as "they're the exception" when they're the very first iteration that set the standard the rest of them deviated from. If for instance, gen IV birds were the odd one out that would be a simple exception, but here we see the quality of the regional bird steadily decline over time.

Can you post the same but with their final forms instead?

That's true.

>implying Hawlucha is a bird

Dude can't even fly, he can only glide, and his "beak is just a nose

He's a bird-themed humanoid, not an actual bird

Well It's more comparable with early forms because we have those for every region. But I do have this saved from another thread.

For final forms of main birds the differences are a lot smaller, I think.

>>26793409
early versions dont HAVE to set the standard, sometimes ideas get refined so that the standard becomes what was done second, or third. Look at long running shows. The first season started the show, but is often not the standard. If you look at the Simpsons, the standard wasnt set until season 3.

I debated if I should have included him.

What's the thing with Swellow, by the way?

Fearow was attack and speed while Pidgeott had better defense. How about Swellow?

This applies to most final forms. I've ragged on this ugly piece of shit a lot, but Zoroark looks just fine.
>>
>>26793514
Sweet, didnt have to do it after all.

I think this almost lines up with the design philosophies of each Gen. I like how the Johto birds are more understated in their looks and poses compared to the others.

>>26793530
Swellow was fast. I dont really know anything about it otherwise
>>
>>26793546
Well, a lot of the final forms at least. Moat of the ones people complain about.

The early stages are more cutesy than in Gen 1 but the final ones are still pretty "detailed". Just look at Braviary.

I always hated Johto birds, Hoothoot is by far the horrendous bird design of all the series, today I like Xatu and Ho-Oh just because nostalgia

Hoothoot is designed too look like both an owl and a clock. It's clever. I like it.

>>26793389
I don't know why you people ignore final forms, specially when that's the pokemon you are going to see for most of the game in all likelihood.
>>
>>26793786
The argument is specifically about the early forms. Plus that's all we've seen of Gen 7.

Still, they also ignore it because the argument falls apart when you use final forms.

Kirby's Dream Land was the first Kirby game yet the standard wasn't set until Dream Land 2 or Adventure.
>>
>>26793514

Gen 1: Plain and realistic with squared off feathers. They look aggressive, but otherwise ordinary birds.
Gen 2: Ornately patterned but plainly posed. They seem very wise, like animals you'd expect to talk in a cartoon.
Gen 3: Both involve high-contrast, saturated colors. They have kind of a plastic look to them, like they're supposed to be the ones that appeal most to very young children.
Gen 5: They went kind of crazy designing them, particularly with adding weird stuff to the head. A pretty common issue with a lot of Gen 4 Pokemon.
Gen 5: They seem very slender and feminine. Both look like like they're wearing high heels.
Gen 6: See guys, bird can be cool! Their attempt to make birds interesting by giving them bold color schemes and typing. I think it's pretty successful, to be honest.

I feel like the latest Gen 7 is going to be closest to Gen 2. Kind of fancy, but not to Gen 4 levels of indulgence.
>>
>>26794111
I actually also think Gen 7 will be real close to Gen 2, which I really love. Not just the bird, but in general.

>>26794079
Could you absorb enemies in 2? I think so. 2 or 3 was the standard. The point is that for >>26793409, it's easy to be the exception when you're first as Gen 2 set the standard.

Rufflet isn't available until the e4, evolves late, and is a version exclusive. Three strikes, it can't be the regional birb
