I would agree in saying that he was one of the main reasons it got so popular, and I think it would be a lie to say Gamefreak didn't take notice of a different way that people were playing their game, that gained this much popularity. But him saying he "invented" it is too far. I can guarantee he wasn't the first person to think of this and play it. He just happened to make videos of it.
