The DexNav is a good addition, breeding streamlining is well recieved and helped (at least for a bit) and the graphical updates were a step in the right direction.

I'll definitely give you the lack of pokemon variety. It was without a doubt a mess, and I do think Hoenn's environmental variety blows its load early with the end game being so wet, but I still feel stylistically hoenn wins out over Unova. Unova had areas that looked different but they always sort of felt similar, and Hoenn does still have some unique environments to this day.

Soaring is just a different coat of paint on normal flying though, and its novelty wears off extremely fast. The only lasting improvement I've found with the game is the DexNav since it remains a useful tool for more or less the entire game and into the postgame.

It's a fun show. Pearl is a cute and so is Peridot. Don't let a fanbase be what ruins something for you.
It's not perfect. Episode run times aren't enough, the show takes too long to get off the ground to the real action so it's hard to get people into it, and theres that anticlimax with the Cluster, but it's still fun.
