Shauna is just forced upon you as waifu in the games, I can see people hating that. Not sure about Iris, she didn't get special attention in the games.

Shauna is forced to come on to you, whereas it was an optional thing in BW2 and she adds nothing to the game and you only get to battle here as your first battle and once again before being the last time you see Trevor/Tierno. She fills in for a plot device twice leading a guard away and opening a door because she like puzzles(?) and got a hack thing from Clemont.
She's there a lot early game then just kinda disappears and just stands infront of your house after postgame never to do anything again.
Iris, ehh worst anime partner of the worst series, I love Unova to death but the show was god awful everyone was peope waifu anime dawn and then to be followed up with her...., but she was a fine champion, even if she was another dragon themed champ, but she had some kick ass music, nice challenge but not enough character.
