I'm fine with the concept of local bird, bug and beast; they play an ingame role giving you weak Pokémon that you'll eventually replace.
However, it's GF. They'll use the very same tropes over and over again. I'll even predict stuff about the local bird, Pikipek:
You'll find it in the 2nd route at lvl 5 or so, as usual for the Normal/Flying local bird.
It'll evolve once at lvl 16-22, keep types unchanged, and it'll be 70cm large or so.
The 2nd evolution is at lvl 32-36; still Normal/Flying. It'll be somewhere like 130cm large.
Since the game is easy, you can use the last evolution up until E4; however, I'd guess it'll be of little value for competitive battling, and overshadowed by plenty other Flying types. Smogon's UU, maybe?
Also, Ash will catch one at one of the first episodes, but this is not GF's fault.

S&M is like the opposite of XY for me, I liked the initial reveal but every press release thus far has been decreasing my interest. The GUI and battles changes are fantastic at least.
But the pokemon designs, region design, character designs, music and animations are really bad imo. I openly laughed at that preschooler design on stream and the trainers look goofy as all fuck in the middle of battle, its like they don't know what to do with them even though we have 15+ years of animation depicting it. I'm gonna miss Kalos.

I agree with you, gen 6 Pokémon looked really good, but this gen, except for maybe tumblr bait and bird, look really bad. But the hero and heroin look really good, and the animation isn't that bad, just average.
I hate the region "inspiration" and the Moon legendary but outside of that I'm mostly okay with this gen so far

Sure, I can definitely see the current trainer walking animation and battle animations as being works-in-progress (I hope they fix them). But things like the trainer battle music are unlikely to get changed.
Obviously some elements are just hit-and-miss. But for me the reveals thus far have been more miss than hit.
The idea is to love the qualities that remain the same - that make a pokemon game a pokemon game. The normal local pokemon in the beginning area? That's something set in stone just like the 3 starters. Always have a villain, at least 2 opposite legendaries... All these things are what build the foundations of a Pokemon game. You may get sick of it, but it's a strategy that works. It worked for gen 1, 2, 3, 4 etc, you have to learn to love the things that remain the same - the experiences that newer generations of children will experience like you did.
I for one am always excited to know what new early-route normal type we'll get. Also the flying type etc.
I absolutely love the colours (level up menu, pokeball send/receive in battle animations), I love the trainers in battle, I love the scaling of pokemon sizes, I love the earthy more relateable feel? The game is just way more comfortable looking than most of the previous ones.
I was not impressed by the amount of content we got at e3 but the content was at least all positive imo. This game from what I've seen just really warms me up. Sure I'm going to be hyped over most of them, but this one genuinely feels like it has more personality than the rest.
I don't shit on the older gens, because they were all fantastic for their time. But honestly almost all of them have lacked any true emotional value in their content. I'm not talking about how you feel about nostalgia, you'll have that with anything that was in the past which you enjoyed. I'm talking about unbiased and reasonable feelings to this game individually. When compared to older gens, it's improved much more, and maybe you're not into the 3d thing or them breaking the 4 directions for movement rule etc. But you've gotta realize it's probably you with the problem and not the game.

I mean I get it, if you don't like this game then whatever. But why complain about a game that is presenting you with everything you were always interested in to begin with? You know like, I like pokemon because it's something stable and constant. It presents its quirks and graphical updates but in the end it's still that pokemon game we've always loved. For the base of the game, it's the same as it has been since gen I and slowly develops a slightly more complex system or implements one over many generations. But the basics are all there.
This isn't a game focused on making adults happy, it's for making kids happy. The basics of the game were good enough for you in gen 1 which had little to no real personality or emotion to it. Now they have all this nice stuff and somehow that's a bad thing?
It's a pokemon game, appreciate the simple things man. Try to remember what it was like when you were excited for a clone of the previous game either in black and white, or slightly better animations. Now we've got full colour, proper scaling and all kinds of shit.
