And what exactly would you rather the type be? Fire? Fire/Fighting? The fact they chose this typing for it shows that they actually do think when it comes to designs and don't just throw random typings at a Pokemon "because reasons".

They tried pretty damn hard when it came to hinting Project AZOTH which shows they did their research when it comes to alchemy. Hell Magearna was even created by a man named Eliphas who is named after Eliphas Levi, a man who wrote a book on alchemy and specifically wrote about the process of creating Azoth aka the elixir of life or "universal medicine". They know what they're doing and I personally can't wait to see whats all in store.
