I know perfectly how EV, IV natures, breeding etc work, but I don't know where to start looking about what Pokemon are going strong in the current meta, the correct moveset for each one, diminishing returns for stats etc etc, generally everything about battling itself.
I swear this stuff is ahrder than a moba (not saying much, I know), I see people who can tell exactly that x pokemon can OHKO y pokemon with z move, I feel overwhelmed.

Nugget bridge. Pro-tip: /vp/ sucks in competitive.

dont go to smogon, its shit. REAL competition is in the VGC scene, just stay away from the "famous" vgc players, they think they are gods or smth. Also, anyone can loose a battle at any time. Seen it happen time and time again.

couldnt agree with anon. VGC 14 was the funnest shit ever and looking forward to VGC 17. If anything practice alot now, learn the turns, learn to keep track of trick room, tailwind, practice note taking, matchup types, team archetypes like trick room, tailwind, weather teams, etc. plenty to learn

edit: couldnt agree MORE.

Yeah, it's not hard, it's just that it takes learning every way every Pokemon interacts with each other. It's just knowledge based and takes very little skill.

Get into pokemon showdown and start playing randoms, the movesets tend to be what's "best" for the pokemon and you can learn from that and get inventive over time.
