I don't know, I liked the Gen 3 starters too. So far the Pokemon they've unveiled for Gen 7 have overall been the best-looking in a long, long time (sans Mecha Colossus Zygarde and the unironically overdesigned gear waifu), I'm optimistic about what's to come.

Being "overdesgined" doesn't make it bad. Its a complex design that actually works. Not even near Palkia-tier. That dragon looks like a machine when its not even a machine. Now THAT is a FAILED design.

3 years is a long time?
Too early to say, need to see the final evos. The first evos are miles better than gen 5 though. I liked gen 6 first evolutions a lot more than these but the final evolutions are just barely better than gen 5. I'm not too optimistic because while I don't hate them I'm not hyped for them either. But even meh starters are better than shit starters.

This is the first time since Gen III that I genuinely like all three starters. Which makes me terrified to see what GF is going to evolve them to.
