It's fast, has perfectly good special attack, and is mixed, whic hare all hugely great commodities in game. Just being faster is much better. How the fuck did Vaporean outlevel a Pokemon you get at the very fucking beginning of the game? Even if you had XPShare off, why would you be sending out and using Eevee/Vaporeon more than the Greninja if you didn't just intentionally want to overlevel it?

I got it before the second gym, when my starter was still a Frogadier. Vaporeon is insanely good in the early 20s and it just kept getting better from there thanks to the level advantage it got from killing everything.

You basically only need Water-, Ice-, and Ground-type moves to sweep most of the game in XY. Tyrantrum covered Vaporeon's weaknesses nicely. Also, Greninja doesn't have a very good level-up learnset. It basically gets STABs and Extrasensory.
