There's still de-gameified aspects (blocking attacks with attacks) but it's a lot more like the games otherwise, compared to before. The main improvement is that action scenes are no longer just still frames with speed lines, they have a real budget now and I think it's worth watching just for the visual appeal.

The worst was the episode where his Pidgeotto evolved in a Pidgeot. He left him with some random other Pidgey and Pidgeottos to help them out for some stupid reason and promised to pick him up later. Still waining for this since 2001. This bird is still waiting for his trainer for 15 years to go and dominate the Johto League.
